Twin Sets and Pearls

I know it has been ages since my last post mainly because I have not felt at all inspired to create or basically do anything much at all. I suppose I could blame my health but would that just be an excuse for my apathy or does apathy feed our lower levels of well being? Hmm chicken and egg scenario methinks!
Tomorrow there is an Open Day at Swinton Lock, so I have had to get myself motivated and make some new stuff. I decided to focus on Pearls but not Pearls as our Mothers and Grandmothers would have known them.

The idea tomorrow is to work and chat to people so I plan to take a new project in with me - but I will have to get it started tonight because until I get started with it I am not sure if it's possible to achieve what I plan.
Next month is the 50th anniversary of my Mam's passing - half a century my goodness what a long time that is. The thought struck me this week that even my daughter is older than Mam got to be. I am waiting to be inspired of how to recognise and acknowledge it and do something which can celebrate her short life. When we reached her 40th anniversary I began the Family Tree research and I have an idea of incorporating all the skills I learned from my family to create a new collection of Jewellery and name the pieces after my ancestors. With names like Jennie, Sally and Esther they may not be the most exotic sounding but each piece will be made with love and remembrance. Hmm maybe I have been inspired already!

Bargains on my Site

I forgot to tell you I added some stunning bargains on my site - They are not made by me but I got them on my travels at a good price so want to offer you a chance to get one. I have 9 Rutilated Quartz and 1 Rose Quartz Pendants encased in Sterling Silver. They vary in size and are about 1 and a half inches by an inch. You are getting a substantial stone - all you need do is pop it on your favourite cord. They will slide onto a chain if the jump ring is small enough. They are only a tenner! Click here to go see them
Rutilated Quartz is said to be the illuminator of the soul and Rose Quartz is just so full of love

Kambala Jasper Necklace Set for Sue

My friend Sue in Dublin who has to be my best customer by now saw this Kambala Jasper necklace on my site and asked me to make her a matching bracelet and earrings which I promised to do as soon as she let me know how big the bracelet needed to be. Today with Tom's help and allowing for "wiggle" factor I managed to complete it for her. If you click on the picture you get a better view of it.
She won't be collecting it until May because that's when she's coming to the UK and staying with us.
Jaspers are reputed to be for Protection, nurturing, joy, awareness; balancing of physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual energies.

3 Commissions

A friend in America has asked me to make her 3 necklaces with 3 different stones - Fluorite, Labradorite and Azurite. She has chosen them for the properties of each stone. I went to the warehouse on Monday and scoured every string of each stone to get the best quality . I was not as successful as I had hoped because the Labradorite did not have the amount of blue flashes I was seeking although it is a very deceiving stone and seems to flash blue with movement and I couldn't capture that on camera. The heart is Labradorite and the length of the necklace is alternating Quartz Crystal and Labradorite chips.
I was more successful with the Fluorite and found a string which was representative of the wide range of colours and formations seen in Fluorite, including blue! Again I have used Quartz Crystal chips to enhance the Fluorite and to keep the cost more affordable.
Azurite proved to be much more problematic as it was only available in conjunction with Malachite - it naturally is found like this. However I blanched when I saw the price for a string of tiny 6mm round beads and decided that my friend was unlikely to want them at such a cost. I would be nervous of ordering such rare beads online as so much out there in Webland is dyed Howlite, which is fine if you are made aware of that when you buy, but sadly many sellers don't enlighten you.
I totally trust the company I use and it is always clear what process has been used on the stock so rather than come home empty handed I bought 2 strings of Howlite which is dyed Azurite and Malachite. My friend may not want what I made but that's not a problem as I am sure the necklace will sell to someone else.
Just for the record the properties of the stones are as follows:
Azurite: Intuitive energy, dreams, healing, insight, stilling the mind, concentration, self transformation.
Fluorite: Stability, impartial reasoning, responsibility, concentration, health.
Labradorite: Alignment, spiritual connection, transformation, clarity, peace, progression, discernment.
Howlite: Awareness, calm, emotional expression, observation, patience, eliminating negativity
Crystal Quartz: Intensifying energy, spiritual development, healing, raising consciousness.

The Photograph Story

I mentioned a few days ago that I had a photographic encounter times two, so here is that little story. I finally got around to taking in Passport photos for my travel pass upgrade. The weather was abysmal and I entered the Travel Office cold, wet and bundled up with my hood up.
"Oh" said the immaculately groomed assistant, "The system has changed now we take your picture using this" as she pointed her manicured nails at the small camera on her desk.
"Oh!" says I, I must look a right mess all windswept and bundled up".
"That's not my place to comment" said the assistant. I took off my glasses and wiped the snowflakes off them with the bottom of my jumper, and brushed my hair through with my fingers.
"Is that any better?" I asked, smiling at her.
"That's not my place to comment" said the assistant!!!
I stood there staring into the lens, refusing to smile when told I had permission to do so and left as soon as I possibly could.
My next port of call was Asda and that jaunt did nothing to lift my mood - I won't bore you with the detail except to say that you can have a small poly bag to put fruit and veg in, as many free carriers as you like, but no small poly bag for expensive birthday cards! When I got back to the car I sat there for a while and as I did a guy walked past who I knew from years back. When I came back to Barnsley in 1972 I went out with him for 3 weeks. I can't say I actually smiled at him but I did half acknowledge him.
I put the keys in the ignition, pulled on my seat belt and was just about to reverse out when I saw him come back to the side of the car. I wound the window down and he said "I know you don't I", to which I answered affirmatively. He then handed me a photograph and told me he had kept it in his wallet all these years. To say my gob was smacked is an understatement. This is the photo which is actually nice and clear- I think my hand must have been shaking as I took it on my phone. Umm I guess I made an impression on him .

PS I refuse to show you my Travel pass picture it is even worse than I ever thought possible lol

1000th Blog Visitor Giveaway - updated with winner

Ok so technically I must have passed the 1000th visitor mark as I put the counter on here ages after I started this Blog but let's not get bogged down with technicalities. As I write this, the count is 939 visitors from 55 countries. How cool is that?
To be in with a chance to win this Chakra necklace just add a comment to this post. I suspect we will hit the 1000 mark before the end of January but I have decided to wait until then to draw the winner so all comments received up to the end of January will be included - But you only go in the hat once. The necklace is made with Quartz Crystal beads with the focal comprised of Swarovski bicones in the colours of the chakras. The clasp is Sterling Silver and the whole thing is of course hand crafted with love.

I used a random number generator and the lucky poster is Number 5...
which is GRUMPY - Matt if you prefer some man beads let me know
Congratulations to Matt and thanks to everyone who participated

Out with the old.....

Well I am having a mass clear out and have just listed loads of things (39 and rising) on Ebay and there is something there for loads of my readers.
I have listed loads of vintage Macrame Booklets, published in the 1970s, many of which include stunning jewellery projects as well as more traditional items. There is also a copy of The Bead Maker by Mary Maguire .
For my friends who are seeking answers to the mysteries of life there are oodles of books, many of which are now out of print. All of the Conversations with God are there as are books by James Van Praag and Edgar Cayce. Other topics cover Reiki,Spiritual healing and Crystal healing
They are listed as UK only but if you live elsewhere feel free to bid and I can adjust the postage prior to payment

More New Designs

As you can see I have been busy over the holidays and these are just 3 of the things I have made. The top one uses metallic seed beads with quartz crystal chips and Freshwater Pearls, the middle one (which is for me) uses glass seed beads, Lavakite rounds and Aquamarine chips. The bottom one uses glass seed beads, Freshwater Pearls and Amethyst chips - this is a commission for my friend Genny in America but (massive sigh) I have this awful feeling that I will have to redo it as I messed up the clasp and made it too tight!!! In one way it's a blessing as I plan to rethink how I fasten them off and the new method will be more secure and if in the future the clasp fails it will be a doddle to add a new one.
I have also been busy making a lower priced range which I am selling through Ebid. You can see my items here. If you wish to join Ebid use this link

New Year Wishes 2009

--Author Unknown

In the coming year, I wish you the clarity of vision to purposefully define your dreams and set your course to reach them.

I wish you the courage to change what must be changed and the wisdom to know what to leave alone.

I wish you the energy and passion to see it through to the end, and enough successes along the way that you never lose hope.

I wish you enough laughter to make the journey enjoyable, enough support and encouragement from family and friends that you're never lonely along the way, and enough love in your heart that you will always be able to give back to them and to the world.

I wish you a deep inner knowing that you have an important role to play in the grand scheme of life that no one else can fill, and that you may remember to serve others in their needs and encourage them in their dreams, even as you pursue your own needs and dreams.

I wish you enough humility to remain down to earth, even as you soar to ever new heights, and enough gratitude that you never forget your many blessings.

I wish you mountain of confidence so you never think too small, an ocean of possibilities so you always have dreams to make real, a sky full of opportunities so you never feel stuck or lost, and enough challenges to give you a deep sense of satisfaction with your accomplishments.

I wish for you a rainbow after every storm, comfort after every sorrow, inner peace in the midst of any chaos, and a clear conscience so you always sleep well and wake up restored and ready to continue the chase.

I wish you the genuine respect you deserve, the love you need, good health, clear thinking, inspiration, creativity, and beauty in your life.

These are all the things I wish for you, and I mean them as sincerely as I know how . . . but there is a catch—only you can make my wishes come true.

May all I wish for be the least you get.

Happy New Year!
